The NSW School of Hypnotic Sciences (NSWSHS) was founded in 1968 to provide training in the practice and application of clinical hypnosis for:

  • medical practitioners;
  • psychologists;
  • counsellors;
  • dental surgeons; and
  • other health care professionals.

Courses are also open to those persons wishing to start a new career as a Clinical Hypnotherapist and for those who would like to know more about hypnosis for general interest.

The school offers a Certificate and a Diploma Course.

The syllabus covers a wide variety of induction methods and detailed therapeutic interventions such as: smoking, obesity, sexual problems, hypnotic anaesthesia, painless childbirth, stress related and anxiety difficulties etc.

In 1983 The NSW College of Behavioural Sciences was established as a subsidiary of the NSWSHS.

The Diploma in Counselling Skills offered by the College meets the additional educational requirements of The Australian Society of Clinical Hypnotherapists (ASCH).

RECOGNITION OF THE SCHOOL'S COURSES

The Certificate in Clinical Hypnotherapy has been reviewed, evaluated and approved by the ASCH.

The Diploma of Clinical Hypnotherapy and the Diploma in Counselling Skills covers the additional educational requirements for Full Membership to the ASCH.

Courses have been approved by the NSW Psychologists Registration Board, for the purpose of supervision for conditionally registered psychologists.

The recognition of any qualification comes from its acceptance by the professional and academic community.

Graduates include Medical practitioners, psychologists, counsellors, nurses, social workers, ministers of religion and teachers as well as those in full time employment of the Department of Health, the Police Department and the Defence Forces of Australia.

In many cases these students have had their fees paid by their Government employer.

TEXTS AND REFERENCES

There are no prescribed texts or prerequisite reading for the Certificate in Clinical Hypnotherapy.

All relevant information is covered during the course and in many cases included in the printed lecture notes supplied to students.

Students may purchase 'The Handbook of Traditional Hypnotic Techniques' on commencement of the course.

A list of recommended reference books for follow up reading will be provided.
